Greetings neighbours and community! Although it was difficult for me to leave my loved ones in Ontario, I am happily back home. The cold air is already here, and now we are looking forward to the winter festivities. Have a Jovial Yuletide! Merry Christmas! Joyous Kwanzaa! Happy Hanukkah! It has been a strange year, indeed. Somehow, we made it through. This year, I will be focusing on the simpler things and taking much enjoyment appreciating a hot “cuppa” cocoa, relaxing in my warm home in my toasty thick socks while reading a book or watching television. I have much to be thankful about. I especially like how the prairie hares here become arctic white and seem to come more alive.

The BTCA would very much like to thank two gentlemen who have down countless amounts of work for our community while saving the community much money! These gentlemen have helped us create a new garden shed to hold our garden supplies. They have also helped with repairs here and there, worked on the community centre, and have also helped build our storage shed as well. Thank you so much, Alfred Wright and Mike Legg! Please see the photo of Mike Legg who helped fix our community little book library nook right in front of our community hall. Alfred Wright and Mike Legg are long term community members that are past board members. We would also like to thank Dana Galuszka for her beautiful artwork painted on the new little library!

Linda from the Shaganappi Nordic Operations has recently contacted us to remind us of the free groomed trails available for cross-country skiing this year. A reminder to those who walk the local parks to stay off these groomed trails. More details are in this issue.

It is wintertime once again. Once again, we will need to flood the rink with water to allow it to freeze for our community residents of all ages to enjoy skating or to play hockey. How fortunate we are to have such a lovely rink with lights for us to have fun while exercising. This rink would not be possible without dedicated volunteers. We are in need of volunteers to help flood the rink and maintain it during these cold months. More details in this issue.

Would you like to see a cycle track in your neighbourhood? Right now, there is a petition circulating Banff Trail to build a separated cycle track along 20th Avenue NW (from Banff Trail Train Station) to 4th Street NE (Mountainview School). More details are in this issue about the Banff Trail Cycle Track,

Do you have a Banff Trail Community Membership? At the 2018 AGM, your BTCA voted to set memberships to zero dollars. Yes, free. To get a membership, just provide your name, contact information, and let us know if you live within the Banff Trail neighbourhood boundaries to [email protected]. Memberships run from March to February, and do not automatically renew. Please email to renew your membership for another year. For those interested in becoming a member for the first time, welcome!

If you have anything you’re interested in, don’t hesitate to get involved. Our meetings are always on the first Wednesday of the month from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Feel free to call 403-282-2234. You are more than welcome to attend! The Banff Trail Community Association consists of a pretty awesome group of neighbours who are here to make Banff Trail a great place to be.
