I am writing this message on the morning of September 12, and I am still smiling. We hosted the SCA’s 40th Anniversary at the Community Centre yesterday and it was wonderful to welcome people into the building to help us celebrate. This was the first event the SCA has hosted in a year and a half! Special thanks to the SCA’s Board Member, Marlene Bainborough, and Shelley Lakatos, the SCA’s Office Manager, for organizing this event. A shout out to our local Sobeys that provided the cake – it was delicious, and we thank you.

We would like to extend a warm welcome to Shelley Bartole who has joined the SCA as Office Assistant. Shelley spent 10 years on the SCA Board as Director of Development and is very familiar with the workings of the SCA. We are excited to have her join our team!

This month, the SCA will resume regular office hours and the front doors will be unlocked during those hours. Our new office hours will be:

  • Monday, Wednesday, Friday from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm
  • Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00 to 10:45 am

We are in the midst of another wave of COVID, and it makes planning so very difficult. While being compliant with all COVID protocols, the SCA is striving to accommodate as many programs and events as possible, but the rules change week to week. So please bear with us while we navigate these uncertain times. You can find current program information on the SCA’s website at www.scacalgary.ca.

I am excited to chair our first meeting with a refreshed Board and am looking forward to getting to know the new Board Members and hear their ideas. It has been a difficult year and a half, and I am more than ready to focus on a happier future for the Community Centre.

Sadly, our family lost its best friend. Mack the dog passed away quite suddenly, and we wish him a happy journey across the rainbow bridge where the treats are unlimited and the squirrels slower. I have a special whistle that I would use to call Mack when he was far away from me, and it always made me grin to see him galloping towards me. When it is my turn to cross that bridge, the first thing I will do is hug my mom, and then I will whistle and wait …
