With March comes the end of sustained cold weather, meaning our outdoor ice rinks are no longer maintained. This year’s highlight was the reinitiating of the Polar Party led by Betty Bacque and her team, including Sangeeta Jain and Hannah Bryant. This year, a sudden snowstorm meant our Rink Rat team had to work that morning to clear the ice. The party was enjoyed by over 70 participants despite cold temperatures. Pictures here and on the website reflect the popularity of the fire pit that day. A big thank you goes to Tim Hortons owners on Center St and 40 Ave for donating hot chocolate for the occasion. Also, at this time we also applaud Scott Jacobson and his entire Rink Rat team for the great outdoor ice enjoyed by so many this winter. Their volunteerism is much appreciated by the residents of Cambrian Heights and surrounding communities.
The Social Committee remains active with the planned Celtic Dance on Saturday, March 18 at the Community Hall. Look for the advertisement of this event which features a live band, an open bar, and group participation in Irish folk dances. It is always a fun, energizing, and special experience. Tickets are available on our website (cambrianheightscommunity.com). Other social events are planned, including a Tea Party in April and for a second year, a Bicycle Repair clinic with games and refreshments in May. We partnered with Rosemont Community for our annual Spring Cleanup event application. Unfortunately, we were denied by the City of Calgary. We are trying to ascertain why. They will publish those communities who have been successful at calgary.ca. Any neighbouring community holding such an event is obligated to provide this service to all Calgarians free of charge.
Cambrian Heights has operated a community garden for a number of years. We currently have a few open garden beds. If you are interested in an opportunity to grow your own vegetables this summer, please contact us at [email protected] for more information.
We have been awarded Casino dates of April 17 and 18 in 2023. Casino proceeds allow the Association to remain financially viable and provide services and facilities to the community. We need volunteers for those two nights to work a shift at the Pure Casino Calgary, as well as organizational help in coordinating the volunteers over the two days. No experience is required. Come and enjoy a hot meal, meet fellow residents, and support your community. Transportation is available to and from the casino location if required. We have recently updated our membership registrations with a new program to better manage the process. We encourage everyone to go to our website and register for membership for 2023.
On planning and development postings within the community, we remind residents they should contact the City File Manager directly on applications where you feel the development will have a detrimental impact. They may also file comments using the City website and Development Map Link.
Any traffic issues (speeding, unsafe intersections, cross walk violations, etc.) should be reported at 311 but a more immediate response may be obtained by submitting an online Traffic Service Request (TSR) which can be found at calgary.ca. The CPS reminds everyone to be specific about times and place when filling out the TSR online.
