From Shirley
We are lucky to have a wonderful poet in our community who has kindly shared a couple of her lovely works with us.
Cabbage Flys,
Whiteness of their wing
Enlivened by the sun,
By my garden dancing
With nature to be one.
Their ever-gentle measure
Is hastened when a breeze,
Send them soaring
In the blueness,
Of the sky above the trees.
There they toss in
Waves of light
Like yachts upon the sea
‘til they settle toward earth,
Uncaring, and still free.

Newborn.
Brought about of a wild
And windy May
Sleeping sound on a deep,
Fresh bed of straw.
The foal lies curled,
His nose upon his knee
And looks for all the world
Perfection pure to me.
If one did ever doubt
The worth of life
He should witness what
This hour my eye has seen
Such struggle and such
Triumph, silently achieved
The right of it is good.
As ever it has been.
