Rutland Park Development and Traffic Report – June 2023

I would just like to highlight what has been happening/going on behind the scenes this past month, in no particular order:

We have applied for a curb bumpout on Richmond Road near 31 St SW to provide some traffic calming in the area. We need to wait to see whether we are approved for the grant.

We had an opportunity to attend an online presentation with regards to the final proposal for upgrades to Richmond Green. We were pleased with many of the ideas that were presented. Concerns we raised were around selling the ball diamonds as a source of income for the project (when the City is anticipating a $367 million dollar surplus in last year’s budget), making sure the contamination on the OWC site is addressed, and removing trees along 33 Ave SW to accommodate a pump track.

As a Board we agreed to write Council a letter recommending that the OWC site be used for a Housing Cooperative. This letter has been sent. A copy can be found on our website at https://www.rutlandparkcommunity.com/richmond-green.

At this point in time, we are still waiting on an engineering report for the main hall structural damage. There will be significant costs incurred and we will need to call an emergency meeting at some point to get membership approval for repairs. Thank you for your patience.

The Community Cleanup will be on June 24 this year. Please save the date as we will be looking for volunteers.

Neighbour Day will take place on June 17 this year, in conjunction with our 50th Anniversary celebration as a community association. Some volunteers will be needed, and we are hoping that a lot of you can join us to celebrate.

We provided feedback on the architectural plans for a villa style development on Calais Drive in Currie. We are looking forward to seeing more projects completed in Currie this season.

If you have not already signed up for our email updates, please do so at our website, rutlandparkcommunity.com. The City often gives us very short notice for upcoming events, and this is the quickest way for us to reach you. Please also join us on Facebook—Rutland Park Community Association. Thank you for your ongoing support.
