Capitol Hill: Entertainment and More
Established in 1948, Capitol Hill is home to a high number of university students because of its proximity to both S.A.I.T. and the University of Calgary. Located just off the Trans-Canada Highway, Capitol Hill offers easy access to downtown in minutes while still providing that residential community lifestyle. 16 Avenue also provides a wealth of restaurants, shops, and pubs to fill up all your weekends with entertainment.

Capitol Hill is serviced by the Capitol Hill Community Association (CHCA), a non-profit organization led by a dedicated volunteer Board comprised of community residents. The mission of the CHCA is to cater to the recreational, educational, and social requirements of the residents in the community.
The CHCA takes pride in managing the maintenance and operations of the Capitol Hill Community Centre, conveniently situated at 1531 21 Avenue NW. The facility boasts a Hall, a Lounge, and a Preschool located in the basement.

The options for accommodations in Capitol Hill are quite evenly distributed between single-detached houses, semi-detached houses, units in a duplex, and apartments less than five storeys tall (2021 Census of Canada). According to this, 25% of occupied private dwellings are single-detached houses, 22% are semi-detached houses, 20% are apartments or flats in a duplex, and 32% are apartments in a building less than five storeys tall. Although over half of these buildings were built before 1981, there is still growth happening as 11% were built between 2016 and 2021 (2021 Census of Canada).
The median household income of private households was $71,500 at the time of the 2021 Census of Canada, with 70% of households spending less than 30% of their total income on shelter. This leaves much more money left over to spend on the fantastic restaurants and shops nearby. The population in private households in 2021 stands at 4,670 in Capitol Hill.
