Happy Holidays friends and neighbors,

I’m wishing all of you the best for the upcoming holiday season whatever you and your family celebrate. I’m hoping your days are filled with laughter, good food, friends and family.

November has been a busy month with the Legislative Assembly returning to its Fall Session. We have been debating many issues important to our communities such as strengthening Gay Straight Alliances in schools and creating a framework for the legalization of cannabis which emphasizes safety for our youth.

While in the community I’ve been meeting with our community associations, our churches and mosques, and other community leaders to learn how I can best serve you as your MLA. I also joined hundreds of students at Robert Thirsk High School on Remembrance Day to remember our brave women and men who served and continue to serve this great nation of ours.

I also want to recognize two of our community members who received The Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers from the Honourable Lois Mitchell, Lieutenant Governor of Alberta. One community member received this distinction for his work with the Calgary Association for the Deaf and the other for his work with Children’s Cottage Society. We have many active volunteers in Calgary-Hawkwood who work tirelessly to make life better for all Albertans. It’s is important for all of us to take a moment and recognize the outstanding work individuals are doing in our community.
