Friends,
December was of course incredibly busy for us all. Organizing holiday plans with friends and family, making travel arrangements, and hoping the weather cooperates. We wrapped up a productive 2017 legislature session in Edmonton. In partnership with the Alberta Dental Association, our government has released a dental fee guide. Dental costs in Alberta are the highest in Canada and are growing too fast. The fee guide announced today gives consumers an easy-to-use tool when shopping for affordable dental care. We’ve worked to put Alberta dental costs on a path more in line with other provinces in the years ahead. Suggested rates for the 60 most common procedures are dropping by 8.5 per cent over 2016 prices.
During December in Calgary-Varsity, we visited the seniors’ homes to talk with residents and bring some Christmas Cheer. I very much enjoyed the Triwood Christmas Party this year, in fact our whole office attended! This was after their successful Christmas market where we picked up some wonderful gifts. I’d also like to congratulate Banff Trail on the grand opening of their new skating rink.
I visited frontline workers at the Foothills Hospital to get their thoughts on how best to deliver care. I also met with grocery store workers part of UFCW Local 401 to talk about recent labour law changes.
In January we look forward to the new year of 2018, and perhaps a little rest from all the holiday fun. As I mentioned in last month’s newsletter, the new condominium regulations begin on January 1st. You can read more about them on the Service Alberta website. Also this month, the University of Calgary will be hosting its 7th annual Leadership Dinner. The Banff Trail Community Association will be hosting Impacts of Intergenerational Trauma workshop about indigenous issues on January 20th from 11am-2pm.
On January 20th I will be holding a constituent meet and greet at Euphoria Café between 9:30am-10:30am. I hope to see you there!
Our office serves all the people of Varsity, Dalhousie, Brentwood, Banff Trail, University Heights, Montgomery, and Charleswood. Our team is available to talk to constituents about provincial government departments, programs, scrolls, and services.
