Hello Calgary Acadians!

Alberta is on the upward rise with the lower unemployment rate and strides in economic growth. More than 90 000 full time jobs have been created—34 000 jobs were in oil, gas, manufacturing and 12 000 added to the service economy. Additionally, 2 000 interprovincial migrants are expected to enter Alberta this year; this is the largest influx on individuals since 2016. Our government will continue supporting jobs and investments for Albertans.

Alberta continues to support the low and middle class by being committed to no provincial sales tax, no payroll tax, and no healthcare premiums. I would also like to remind you of the two refundable tax credit programs available when completing your taxes.

The Alberta Child Benefit (ACB) provides financial assistance to families with children under the age 18 and net income of less than $41,746 per year. Families will receive 4 installments in August, November, February, and May of either $1,114 per family with one child or $2,785 for families with 4 or more children. Families with a net income of up to $25,832 will receive maximum benefits. There is no application process aside from submitting your taxes. The ACB will be directly deposited into your account. You are still eligible is you receive AISH, Income Support, and the childcare subsidy.

If you require assistance with preparing your tax forms, volunteer-led Tax Preparation Clinics are available to help assist you between February and April. The nearest locations to our riding are: Fish Creek Library located at 111611 Bonaventure Dr. S.E, and Holy Spirit Parish on 10827 24 St. S.W.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns about provincial programs, please feel free to contact my office via email at: [email protected] or by telephone at 403-640-1363. You may also choose to drop-in Monday to Friday between 10 am – 4pm.
