Free Nordic skiing is available throughout Calgary and is a great alternative to get out and get active in the wintertime when the temptation is to stay indoors, especially in the dark evenings.

Shaganappi and Confederation golf course as well as Canmore Park Nordic ski trails are maintained by volunteers.

Maple Ridge Golf Course, Bowness, South Glenmore Park Nordic skiing is maintained by the City Parks Department.

Confederation Nordic and Canmore Park ski trails are maintained by the Foothills Nordic Ski Club. They hope to really focus on snowmaking as well as grooming and track setting the ski trails daily when conditions allow.

Shaganappi Nordic trails will be maintained by the Shaganappi Nordic Operations Club or SNO. The SNO volunteers also plan to groom and track set the Nordic ski trails daily when the snow conditions allow. SNO hopes to be able to increase the trail capacity at Shaganappi, as well as groom for skate skiing as well as classic.

There are easy, flat beginner trails at both Shaganappi and Confederation.

Nordic skiing whether one chooses classic or skate-skiing, is a really fun and inexpensive way to get out of the house and into the fresh air in the winter time. It is especially fun at night with a headlamp or by the full moon! (Always have a fully charged cell phone with you)
