Happy New Year, Calgary-South East!

I hope you and your loved ones had a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year. I had the pleasure of attending the Auburn Bay Parade of Lights, the Mahogany Parade of Lights, and many other events in and around our constituency. I want to thank the volunteers, organizers, sponsors, and everyone from our communities that came out to support these events.

You have likely heard that two new schools will be built in Auburn Bay, the Auburn Bay Middle School (5-9) and the Auburn Bay Elementary School (K-4). We made a promise to continue to build new schools, and we are doing exactly that. I would like to thank Minister LaGrange and Minister Panda again for these important investments

I was also pleased to confirm that the Cranston Second Elementary School will receive a $250,000 playground grant. You may recall that the Auburn Bay School is also receiving one of these grants. Moving forward, new schools will have playground funding included in their project budgets (something I have personally advocated for).

The Fair Deal Panel is currently consulting Albertans on how best to define and secure a fair deal for Alberta. They’re exploring ideas that give us a bigger voice within the federation, increase our power over areas of provincial jurisdiction, and advance our vital economic interests, such as building energy pipelines. I am exploring my own mechanism to keep wealth in Alberta and I would welcome your suggestions on this matter.

With session complete, I will be spending more time speaking and meeting with constituents and attending local events. I am always interested in recommendations on how we can continue to deliver high-quality services during this period of fiscal restraint. Front lines should be the last place affected, not the first.
