Hello and welcome to the summer of 2020. Its been “interesting” to say the least. I would like to let you know that it’s not all bad news. Firstly, our skate shack renovation is progressing. Excavations have started for the expansion and we are still hoping for a completion date well before its time to start flooding the rink for ice. This expansion and renovation will include an office for our community association, an area that can be rented for smaller activities such as fitness classes or meetings, a rebuilt kitchen, and full internet and multimedia capabilities. When it is ready, we’ll have a bit of a party to celebrate and to let you get a look. Another bit of good news is that our main hall is now available for rentals. Capacity is limited until we move to the next phases out of the current quasi-lockdown, but it can be booked for smaller groups up to 30, and has been set up to conform with all current sanitization regulations.

Our social media presence continues to expand. We now have 430 people signed up for our Facebook page, and its an excellent way to catch up on current events in our area. You can also find further information on our webpage at www.rutlandparkcommunity.com.

I recently received a report on crime statistics in our neighborhoods and the numbers seem low given the number of posts on Facebook regarding incidents in our area. We know that crime does happen, but I encourage you to report everything. We seem to have an issue with car prowlings particularly so if you are impacted please report these incidents to the Calgary Police non- emergency number 403-266-1234 or go to the Calgary Police Service website where you can also submit a report. There is also a crime map

Finally, I would like to thank all our volunteers and particularly the members of the Association Board. We now represent a number of neighbourhoods in the area with vastly different demographics and issues. They are a very hard-working group of people and I appreciate their efforts. We have a number of vacancies on the board and are always looking for people to join us. Many hands make for a lighter load. Please feel free to email myself at [email protected], or contact any of our board members if you might be interested. You can find their names and email addresses on our website.

Again, I hope we continue to move out of our current restrictions due to COVID-19 and everyone has the opportunity to fully enjoy their summer.

Peter Forte
