What a Year It Has Been!

Dear Friends,

What a year it has been! We’ve worked together to tackle the need for more openness at City Hall. We’ve highlighted the need to genuinely listen to Calgarians, we’ve brought a brand-new focus to “living within our means” and doing more with the same, just as many families and businesses have been forced to since the downturn began several years ago.

While many of us were counting on a significant economic recovery, it hasn’t happened yet. I continue to see and hear from you how our city continues to experience some of its most challenging times. Record high unemployment, sky-high commercial vacancies in our downtown core, a marginalized energy industry and local businesses going out of business have had a negative compounding effect on the City’s “bad news” budget that was released last month.

I’ve been touched by the incredible support that you’ve given me over the past year as I took on the significant task of challenging the status quo at City Hall. It has been my sincere privilege to advocate on your behalf. In that time, I’ve learned that the things that are worth having don’t come easily—but they sure are worth fighting for! I will continue to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with our non-profit agencies, our businesses, our energy industry and our citizens to bring your concerns forward and make sure that your voice is heard around the Council table.

I hope that you and your family can join me at this month’s special Holiday Ward 11 Town Hall taking place on Thursday, December 6th at the North Glenmore Park Community Centre (2231 Longridge Dr SW) from 7pm-8:30pm. We will be serving up hot chocolate, gingerbread and other treats as a way to say thank you to citizens for all you do for our city. As always, I will be on hand to take your questions, use your suggestions, and engage in a discussion as we chart our course for the New Year.

On behalf of my family and the Ward 11 staff, please accept our sincerest wishes to you and your family for a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, and all the very best for a happy, healthy and safe holiday season. Please continue to be charitable with those who are less fortunate so that everyone can enjoy peace and joy this time of year. I look forward to an exciting start to 2019!

Respectfully yours,

Jeromy
