I can’t believe we’re already into the last month of 2018. December 21st marks the official beginning of winter and we all know that with winter comes snow. The City of Calgary will be working hard to clear roadways, hundreds of kilometers of sidewalks along city-owned properties, and hundreds of kilometers of pathways throughout the City. The City is also asking for your help to keep us all moving in the snow. Please clear the sidewalks adjacent to your property within 24 hours of the snowfall ending. And if you notice that someone in your community is having a tough time clearing the snow why not be a ‘Snow Angel’ and help them out. For more information on the City’s snow clearing plan you can visit calgary.ca/snow or call 311.

But there’s more to December than just snow. With the holiday season upon us I know that the communities of Ward 12 have been working hard to plan some fun events. Did you know that there are eight Community Associations and five Residents or Homeowners Associations in Ward 12 that organize community events all year long? I know that in December we’ll be able to enjoy a parade, festivals of lights, a community dinner, and many other events. Why not reach out to one of these groups in your find out what is going on.

December is also a great time to reflect on the year that has passed and look ahead to the new year. Back in October we had our Organizational Meeting of Council where we decided the membership for boards, commissions, and committees for the upcoming year. This year I’ll be sitting on the Standing Policy Committee on Transportation and Transit, the Standing Policy Committee on Utilities and Corporate Services, the Standing Committee on Priorities and Finance, the Event Centre Assessment Committee, the Inter-Municipal Committee for Foothills, the Public Art Board, and ENMAX. I’ll be working hard to keep the Green Line moving forward, keep a focus on community safety, and make decisions that bring you the best value for your tax dollars.

I wish you and your families a safe and happy holiday season. Merry Christmas, happy New Year, and I’ll see you in 2019!
