The Legislature will begin sitting on March 8 starting with the throne speech. The first regular session begins on March 12 and we are scheduled to sit until early June.

Our official opposition caucus looks forward to welcoming Alberta’s newest elected MLA, Mr. Jason Kenney, to lead us in asking tough questions to the Premier and other Ministers.

In my role as Energy Critic, I will continue to press the Energy Minister on urgent matters relating to market access for our petroleum products and investor confidence in the sector. I will also be looking closely at this government’s very aggressive coal phase out plans and electrical power generation policies.

The Finance Minister will introduce the 2018-19 provincial budget early in this session after which it will be debated. We expect that there will be less money allocated for infrastructure spending. Regardless, I have submitted to the Infrastructure Minister a list of priority projects in our riding, including the usual requests for new schools in the rapidly growing communities and improved interchanges at Stoney Trail.

To all who are celebrating the Lunar New Year, I wish you a very happy and prosperous Year of the Dog.

Kung Hei Fat Choy!
