New Standards

You may have heard that new provincial standards have been announced to improve public safety by making 911 service more consistent across Alberta. The 911 system in Alberta is currently led at the local level. Municipalities will continue to deliver and run 911 services, however the standards will create a more consistent approach. For example the government has mandated that centres have backup procedures to ensure 24/7 service in case of an outage or disruption. Performance targets have also been set to require calls be answered within 15 seconds and transferred within 60 seconds. I believe all Albertans should receive quality 911 service no matter where in the province they live.

Back in Edmonton

The Legislative Assembly will be resuming at the end of this month and it is my duty to make sure your concerns are addressed in Edmonton. When session resumes my top priority will be creating stable, full-time jobs for Albertans. Alberta will be a leader when it comes to economic growth this year and next. The 2019 forecast has been revised upward to 2.7 per cent GDP growth. The number of rigs drilling in Alberta was up 6.7 per cent year-to-date. In other oil-producing provinces, the measure was down 9.7 per cent. Total revenue projections have grown by $1.2 billion with personal income tax revenues and resource royalties recovering better than expected. This is great news but there is still a lot of work to be done.
