Supporting Education
I hope it has been a fun and healthy summer for all of you! It is now September and for many of us that means back to school. Whether you’re a student, parent, teacher, or education staff, this is a busy time of year. We as government recognize how difficult learning has been during the pandemic. This is why we have taken steps to support our educators and get our students back on track.
Kindergarten to Grade 12
Increased the education budget by $700 million over the next three years.
Allocating an additional $110 million over three years to address mental health, specialized assessments, and learning loss supports.
Investment of $45 million over three years to increase access and improve the quality of pediatric rehabilitation services and programs such as speech-language, occupational and physical therapy.
Reintroduced a pilot program to provide $3 million to non-profit organizations to lead innovative school nutrition projects this school year.
Investing $4 million in career-based learning for high school students to have enhanced learning experiences to make meaningful transitions to post-secondary education or the workplace.
Advanced Education
$25.8 million over the next three years to strengthen student mental health supports and promote healthy campuses.
$38.6 million to further create, expand, and support post-secondary students’ apprenticeships, internships, and other on-the-job learning opportunities to help students gain critical experience.
Added 2,600 additional seats in post-secondary institutions across the province for registered nurses (RNs) and health care aides.
