Since 1956, Thorncliffe Greenview community has had an active Scouts Canada program and we are proud to be one of Calgary’s oldest Scouting groups! 58th Thorncliffe Scout Troop engages youth ranging from Grades 6-9, focused on learning new skills, building friendships, and being active outdoors.
This season the Troop have embarked on three adventure camps, and at the end of February we head out again on a winter ice-fishing expedition, where the youth can put their “Be Prepared” camping and winter survival skills to the test sleeping outdoors. Beyond camping, we’ve programmed a computerized robot, attended The Alberta Parks Avalanche Awareness Day in Kananaskis’s Burstall Pass, and linked with the 38th Simons Creek Scouts who invited us to attend that group’s annual Klondike Derby skills day and cook-out near Sibbald Flats. Our Troop is committed to Scouts Canada’s promise to develop strong citizenship through community service, and the Scouts returned for their second-year volunteering at Calgary Urban Project Society’s (CUPS) “Christmas in January” event, where they met Mayor Nenshi while they assisted clearing dinner tables and distributing essentials to Calgarians in need. If you are interested in learning more about our community’s Scouting options for boys and girls of all age ranges our Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Venturers, and Rovers would love to hear from you.
