This May you may be looking for some activities for the kiddies, especially as the school year nears its end. The Calgary International Children’s Festival takes place near the end of the month, with catchy music, explosive science and even pyjama parties for kids K – 6.  Some of the biggest shows include The Rainbow Fish, the Okee Dokee Brothers and the always entertaining Doktor Kaboom.

In the world of children’s classics, the window is closing the see Theatre Calgary’s stunning musical version of The Secret Garden. Relive the classic children’s book as a young orphan discovers the key to a neglected garden – which itself is the key to her family’s heart.

While the kiddies have their fun during the day, the adults can get their funny bones tickled by the hilarious – and often shocking – Jimmy Carr, who performs for one night.

Welcome to the good weather (which definitely took its time to arrive) with the laid-back tunes of Toronzo Cannon. Born and raised in Chicago, Cannon used to drive a bus by day and electrify blues clubs at night. Cannon has become a star in the blues scene for his soulful ballads, swinging shuffles and earing blues anthems, which he will bring to the Martha Cohen Theatre.

Finally, in the wake of Montreal, Columbine, Orlando and other tragedies, Downstage theatre takes an insightful and biting look at the modern world in Miss Katelyn’s Grade Threes Prepare for the Inevitable. The show was the winner of Best Production at the 2015 Montreal Fringe Festival, as it runs through panic, prevention and paranoia in a post-truth world.
