Dear Brentwoodians,
While rain is not the ideal weather to have over a Canadian festive season, that’s what we are getting in Ontario where I am visiting family for the holidays. It has paused a few planned outdoor activities, but I am enjoying the respite from the frigid temperatures Calgary experienced in December. As I write, the year has just begun, and as always there is the hope for personal improvement and greater success that comes with a new beginning. By the time this issue is printed, it will perhaps be apparent which of our resolutions or ambitions for 2023 seem feasible and which might have fallen by the wayside; hopefully, all Bugle readers will be able to pursue the important things they wish for.
February is a month when we celebrate connections, on Family Day and Valentine’s Day. Many cultures all over the world feel the need to have festivals of light in December when the days are at their shortest, so perhaps the bleak depths of February are the time when we most need the warmth of human affection, whether romantic on the 14th, or through our families on the 20th. It is important to remember that one’s family need not only be connected through blood or marriage but can also consist of the important people in your life who care for and support you, and you them. Maybe a good resolution for the new year would be to strengthen the connections that matter most and seek to forge new ones in our community and beyond.
Brentwood’s 60th
Brentwood is turning 60 next year, and the Brentwood Community Association is assembling an Anniversary Committee to plan events to mark this milestone. Let’s all help to make this a year to remember and celebrate our great community!
Photo Contest
The Bugle is looking for Brentwood’s best amateur photographers to provide cover images each month. If you have a great snap of our neighbourhood saved on your phone or posted on your social media feed, send it in for a chance to be featured on the cover of an upcoming issue! Photos must be 300 DPI or higher (i.e., from a newer model phone or good digital camera), 2400 x 1600 pixels minimum size, and portrait orientation.
