First of all, here is a quick reminder that our first Landscaping Information Session will be on March 22, 2023, at the Edgemont Community Centre from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Please bring your questions with you, or even better, submit them beforehand to [email protected] to give our ELM coordinator time to provide you with the most comprehensive information possible! Remember that gardening in Edgemont is a very different beast!
The ECA ELM program is overseen by a committee of board members and volunteers and managed by our ELM coordinator, Shari Pitka. Everything you need to know about the ELM program is available on the City of Calgary website under ‘enhanced landscape maintenance.’ Questions can be directed to [email protected].
Below is a quick recap of what the ELM program entails for Edgemont:
Annually, Edgemont gathers a special tax of $86.52. This tax is collected from all households in Edgemont and is used to enhance our community beyond what the City of Calgary can do. This tax is collected through our city tax program.
These funds are used for:
• Spring and fall clean up
• Garbage removal
• Park clean up
• Weeding
• Weekly mowing of park areas and medians
• Fertilizing and aerating
• Weekly watering/fertilizing of flower beds and pots
• Shrub pruning/mulching
• Spring and summer flower plantings
• Winter pot displays
• Spring and summer flowerpot arrangements
• Soil amendment
Benefits:
• Increased property value: community realtors indicate that it is easier to sell a home in a community with an ELM program because it shows pride of community
• Maintained parks and medians
• Summer flowers and winter displays!
• Garbage pick-up
• More mowing and watering
• Weed and rodent control
• Spring and fall clean up
• Turf maintenance
In closing, we are looking forward to working in 2023 with our primary landscape contractor, Foothills Landscaping.
