On September 21st, the Prairie Winds 4-H Club held their annual open house Ice Cream Social. Returning members were excited to see each other again, while new families had the opportunity to ask questions and discover what 4-H is all about. Of course, the “make your own ice cream sundae” is always a highlight!

When asked what they were most looking forward to this year, returning members were excited about seeing their friends again and meeting new ones, public speaking, going to camps, the explore 4-H projects and more!

On the last Saturday of September, many of our families attended the Rockyview District event at the Calgary Corn Maze. Prairie Winds was well represented with over 30 people in attendance. It was one more chance for families to re-connect before the first meeting and official start-of-the year in October. Along with a hot dog roast, everyone received a 4-H flashlight and had a great time going through the corn maze at night.

Some of the upcoming October and November highlights include the first meeting and family game night on Friday, October 12th; a tour of the Rocky Mountain Soap Company factory in Canmore; a Board Game Design workshop, Nerf War Games social, Circus Training, and a Money Smarts workshop sponsored by Husky. 4-H clubs are known for their social responsibility and community involvement, so the members are also making plans to volunteer with the Salvation Army before Christmas.
