Welcome to the New Year!

The Guidebook for Great Communities and the North Hill Communities Local Area Plan (NHCLAP) went to the Standing Policy Committee on Planning and Urban Development (SPC PUD) today. There will be an additional PUD public meeting on February 3. After that, it is scheduled for a public hearing at Council in March, when we hope that the Guidebook and the Local Area Plan will be approved by Council. I urge all residents to take a look at these important planning documents at the City’s website. You can read more about the NHCLAP at https://engage.calgary.ca/NorthHill. In addition, the City is planning to offer Guidebook 101 information sessions between January 25 and March 19. The sessions will be posted online once the dates are confirmed. For further information about the Guidebook see https://www.calgary.ca/pda/pd/current-studies-and-ongoing-activities/guidebook-for-great-communities.html?redirect=/guidebook.

The Highland Park Preschool and the NEXT Before and After School programs are operating in our community hall, even though other activities there have been closed down. Any parents interested in our preschool program for 3- and 4-year-olds should contact [email protected] or phone 403-276-6969. You can also find information about the Preschool program on our website www.highlandparkcommunity.ca.

After the February issue of this newsletter, the format will be changing to digital only. Highwood Community Association – our partner the last few years in this publication – has decided to go their own way. The deciding factor was the cost of mail delivery of the paper copies. Both our associations have had a significant loss of revenue during the pandemic. Once Highwood decided to terminate their relationship with the publisher, our only rational choice was to adopt a digital only format. We realize this is inconvenient for many of our readers. We will be emailing the link to the digital copy to everyone on our distribution list when it is available. If you are not on that email list, then please send an email request to [email protected]. We will also be posting a link on our Facebook page. And you can access issues directly from the publisher’s website at https://mycalgary.com/magazines/highland_park_highwood/. Please note that the name of the newsletter will be changing to the Highland Park Summit.
