I’d like to thank Linda Russell, Lori Couture, and Michelle Emekalam for joining the SHCA board of directors last month. Most of our board has been together for many years and with our relatively small numbers, we have all been feeling the volunteer burnout the last few years. Thank you to Linda, Lori, and Michelle for stepping up and volunteering for your community.
This December, I’d like to invite all members of the SHCA to participate in the 5th Annual SHCA Christmas Light Display Contest. Unfortunately, our prizes are not as prominent as previous years as we have struggled to obtain donations, so we will be sponsoring a prize ourselves. If you’d like to join the Christmas Light Contest, ensure you are eligible by having a SHCA household membership which can be purchased on our website at www.sagehillyyc.com, then email [email protected] with your name, address, and expressed interest in having your home visited by our judges. Homes are graded on creativity, use of props, music, and lights.
Last week we received the Rink flooding equipment, and we plan to start flooding in early December and are looking for a few dedicated volunteers to help with the ice this season. Unfortunately, Isaac Wing and I have had to step back having undergone surgeries this summer and are unable to perform some of the work. Flooding is usually done once or twice a week and takes about an hour to an hour and a half in the evenings. Duties can be clearing snow, hooking up the hoses, flooding, disconnecting and winding up hoses, and returning equipment to a garage a block away. Currently, we have five volunteers, but we would like to see a healthy ten so we don’t have to call on the same people week after week.
We have received concerns from a number of residents regarding the intersection at Sage Valley Blvd and Shaganappi Trail. This is the community entrance next to the Sonoma Condos. According to our Councillor’s office, construction was supposed to begin this season, but a delay occurred on Enmax’s end in supplying the city with power to that location. We have been assured construction will begin in early 2023 where a full set of traffic lights will be installed. For now, if roads are icy, call 311 to request sanding and use caution with exiting our community as a motor vehicle and pedestrian.
Our next board meeting is in January 2023 and will be announced at a later date as we have to revisit meeting on the first Wednesday of the month due to a scheduling conflict with the city.
