February Message from the Ranchlands Community Association President

The community of Ranchlands is such a gift! As I take on the role of President, I am amazed at the depth of commitment the members of our association display. Coming into a volunteer community board that is so solid is a real treat. Our facility is well-run and cared for, our volunteers (particularly the ice rink at this time of year) are committed, and our relationships with other groups, including schools and churches, are in great shape. Our finances are in good shape and are being well-managed.

It is evident that the belief that we are “Neighbours by chance, community by choice” determines how the board sets priorities for the community. This phrase was coined by our Past President, Anita Raffaele, who led the association well for the past three years and remains a key contributor to the association.

Our meetings are held the first Wednesday of each month at 7:00 pm and everyone is welcome to attend.

At our monthly meetings, we have reports from our community representative from the City of Calgary, from our three levels of government (federal, provincial, and municipal), and from the Calgary Police Service. Our community is a safe place to live, to work, and to play, for all ages. We have a wonderfully diverse neighbourhood, with everyone enriching what we can do. I have lived in Ranchlands for over 35 years and while some things have changed, the underlying community spirit and desire is the same – we want a great community to live in, good neighbours, good amenities, and support from the city and from the businesses we give our business to.

Our board will be having a strategic planning retreat in February to go through the priorities for the year ahead to decide where to spend our time, our energy, and our money to continue building and maintaining the community.

As our new board gets rolling, I will have more to share about initiatives that come from the City, collaboration with the schools, and grants we have received and are pursing.

I look forward to meeting many of you as you come forward with ideas – I can be reached at [email protected] or by leaving a message with the office.
