Merry Christmas from the Sage Hill Community Association! I am so very happy 2020 is nearing an end, as it has been a very difficult year for everyone around the world. Looking back many good things have come from this past year; many families welcomed, or will welcome, new sons and daughters, creating new parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. The world kept turning on its axis, and just as it has for billions of years, the sun rose and set. 2020 was a year we all will never forget, but it is just a fraction of our lives and we shall continue to move forward.
In November we co-hosted our first ever Drive-In Movie at the Sage Hill Quarter with our friends Kincora, Sherwood, and Evanston-Creekside Community Associations. Almost 200 vehicles filled the parking lot to watch ‘Night at the Museum’ and ‘Home Alone’, while most of the businesses offered food included in your ticket. Thank you to RonMor land developer for hosting us, Tim Hortons for their usual goods, as well as Bow Tie and Papa Murphy’s Pizza, for making this event such a hit- we will do this again!
The Sage Hill Rink improvements are done for the year, and the berm is ready to see ice once temperatures drop. Again, I wanted to thank our local corporate partners who made this possible. Inland Aggregates (Spy Hill) donated soil for the base layer, Genesis Land Corp (who is developing the land between us and Walmart) also donated loam for the berm, and Lafarge Canada (also of Spy Hill) came with a skid steer to grade the area- a great combination of local businesses coming together and giving back to the community. This spring we will hand rake a few spots, then plant grass seed to prevent berm erosion and help make this rink last for hopefully many years (or at least until a school is built over top of it).
As mentioned in the November newsletter, we want to end the year with a bang, and what better way than through our 3rd Annual Christmas Light Display Contest. Let’s light up the neighbourhood as a sign of hope, celebration, thanks, and tradition! This year’s grand prize is a $250 Visa gift card courtesy of our title sponsor, Ali Velji Insurance & Financial Services (our local Desjardins Insurance agent). Additional prizes will be available for 1st runner up, as well as one prize designated for our condominium and apartment submissions. To enter you must be a member of the SHCA, and email [email protected] with your name and address. Judging will take place Thursday, December 17, so ensure any lights, lasers, props, music/carolers (and spiked beverages) are ready between 8:00 and 10:00 pm. We have a ton of fun with this event and it ranks as my personal favorite.
Our next SHCA board meetings are both 7:00 to 9:00 pm:
Tuesday, December 8, 2020 via ZOOM
Tuesday, January 12, 2021 via ZOOM
Happy Holidays!

President, Sage Hill Community Association
