On behalf of the Sage Hill Community Association, I wanted to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas. Our board of Directors will not be meeting in December and will reconvene monthly meetings on Tuesday, January 11, 2022, at 7:00 pm via Teams.

This Christmas season, I’d like to invite all members of the Community Association to enter our “4th Annual Christmas Light Display Contest”. This year’s Grand Prize is a $250 grocery card courtesy of Sage Hill Co-op and second Place is a $100 Gift Card to Leopold’s Tavern in Sage Hill! There will also be a number of smaller items which can be found on the event flyer posted to our social media accounts @SageHillYYC (Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter) and our website www.sagehillyyc.com. To enter the contest, you must be an SHCA member, and then email [email protected] with your name and address. Once we verify your membership we will reply and put you on our internal judges list. Community Association Memberships can be purchased on our website for an annual fee of $25 and funds are used to help maintain the ice rink, shed, various little libraries, fund events, subsidize sports, and cover our insurance and operating costs.

Some of you may have seen a survey posted in the Sage Hill Chat Facebook group asking residents if they would like to see a Community Garden in the neighbourhood; based on feedback received, we will be progressing to the next stage which is a “Sight Line Survey”. Over the next few months, volunteers from the SHCA and staff from Calgary Park’s will attend all homes in the immediate line of sight to the desired location to collect feedback from residents most affected by this. These residents can either sign a support petition or choose not to. If a two-thirds majority is obtained by the surrounding residents we will then move on to funding, more community feedback, and final design.

The concept of a Community Garden is a fenced area with raised garden beds in which residents can lease beds/plots for the growing season. Residents can grow a wide range of plants or even fruits and vegetables for personal use. If we receive the support and funding required, our first design priority will be ensuring these grounds remain well maintained and improve the area’s landscaping cosmetics for many years to come. This will be done via our community volunteer network.

This month, we will begin flooding our ice rink as soon as temperatures permit, and we need volunteers to join our ice team! Please email [email protected] or send us a message on social media with your name, phone number, and email address so we can add you to the ice roster. We usually flood twice a week and need 10 to 15 people to rotate through so no one gets burnt out.

Happy Holidays,

Ross Utigard, President

Sage Hill Community Association
