We’ve had a great summer in Calgary but now it is time for the kids to head back to school and get ready for their fall activities. Adults get to take a deep breath and be happy the busy summer is behind them. Let’s hope we have an extended summer and mild fall and winter.
At the time of writing this letter, Sandstock 2018 (Music in the Park) was still in the planning changes so I will comment next month.
We have received several emails from folks concerned about the two brick signs on Sandstone Drive (one on the north side of the bus loop and the other across from Sandstone Park). There has been significant overgrowth on both areas for several years and we have been trying to address the concerns with Parks Calgary with little success so far. The SMCA board is focused on trying to beautify both communities and will continue to work with Parks to ensure these eyesores are cleaned up. We have had two groups volunteer to clean up the area but unfortunately, we cannot sanction a clean-up of an area we are not responsible for. If there is an area that you have noted has been neglected, please email us at [email protected] and we will be happy to review the concern with you.
The Mobile Skateboard Park is installed at our hockey rink for the first two weeks of September. While it is a bit costly, it is nonetheless one of the more popular events the SMCA board sponsors. Please feel free to provide us feedback if you or your kids have taken advantage of this.
As usual, we will be looking for volunteers to assist with the hockey rink this year. Last year there were evenings with only a couple of volunteers cleaning and flooding the rink and it’s too much work. This rink is available to all individuals, regardless of age, so whether you play hockey or not, please consider assisting when you can. It typically works to clean and flood in the evening, however it can certainly happen during the day if there are individuals available.
Please think about attending our Annual General Meeting October 18, 2018 at the Berkshire Citadel Church on Sandarac Drive and getting involved. We keep active throughout the year and always welcome newcomers.
The SMCA board sent email requests to individuals requesting that you opt into our email distribution list in line with Canada’s anti-spam laws. Our distribution list is growing fast so if you have not yet responded, please consider opting into this list as it is one more way for us to communicate important information to you.
