Hello Neighbours,

With fall in the rear-view and winter quickly approaching, many of us may be getting ready to rest and spend time indoors during the coming months. This year, the community association is trying to develop socially distanced community group activities that will inspire people to get outside and enjoy the neighbourhood. I encourage you to join our Facebook page at AcadiaToday to keep up to date with all our neat new initiatives. We would love to hear your ideas of what you would like to see and do in our neighbourhood. You can do this by either sending us a message, posting on our Facebook page, or emailing us at [email protected].

We would like to thank everyone who attended the Acadia Community Association’s 2020 Annual General Meeting on September 24. We had a great turnout, despite the current restrictions. In case you missed it, we have changed the membership year to run from January 1 to December 31. If you have already purchased a membership this year, you will be getting the transition months as a bonus. This means that a 2020 to 2021 membership card, will be valid until December 31, 2021.

This year we had many outgoing board members, whom we would like to thank for their many years of service. Don Prysnyk, Colleen Geib, Frankie Harrison, Barry Smith, Marg Hennan, Helen Tubrett, and Chelsea Robblee, you are greatly appreciated for all your efforts. You have added so much to Acadia while on the board!

We welcome our new board members Jill Marven, Greg MacQuarrie, Phil Fulton, Blair Hone, and Lauren Hone. It’s so exciting to have many of you move from community volunteers to board members! And of course, our continuing board members, Malcolm Jubinville, Ashley Chapman, Paula Fulton, and Keith Simmons, thanks again for signing-up to spend time enriching the community!

We are looking forward to the new year and hoping to once again be able to plan in-person events like the Brewfest, the winter carnival, and the stampede BBQ sooner than later.

As an extra special note of thanks, Frankie Harrison officially retired from the Community Association Board after numerous years and hundreds of hours volunteering in Acadia. Not only was Frankie the one in charge of planning the city’s most successful clean-ups year over year, but she has also helped, been involved in, or connected people in nearly every program the association has ever run. Her wealth of knowledge and experience will be greatly missed. Acadia wouldn’t be what it is today without her big heart and hard work! It’s people like Frankie who inspire the younger generation like me to step up and volunteer. Thank you for everything, Frankie!
