Deer Run President’s Message – October

As I write this we are receiving our first snowfall of the season. Hope everyone had a great summer.

We had another successful slo pitch tournament, 4 of the 5 teams that won cash prizing donated winnings back to the community centre. Thank you to Lori Froese our social director and Ryan Renner from West Coast Heating & A/C for organizing the event. Also, all the volunteers who helped out through the whole weekend.

This weekend will be our community clean up, it will be cold and wet, we are still hoping many of you braved the elements to participate and make this another great clean up. Thank you for Wanda Kemp for organizing this for us each year, as the many volunteers that make this happen.

Proud to report enrolment in DROOS is up, but always room for more kids in our program if you require. I would also like to remind you of Michelle who runs the preschool program. She has run the program for many years and is great with kids, call her for more info.

Our AGM will be Nov 14, 2018 this year. Early numbers are showing a small profit, a great turnaround from last year. We will work hard to keep things in the black even with challenges like wage increases we are going to experience this month.

I would also like to thank Mark Blais for taking over heading up our rink ratz. Please contact the centre and leave your name if you would have time to help with our rink this year. Brian Moule, thank you for the many years of running the crews.

We are looking for local and home-based businesses to partner up with. We will be featuring one or two businesses a month on FB, web page and newsletter. Partner companies may offer members discounts, promotions and/or donations for our many events we throw at the centre. If you’re interested to help us add value to our residents being members of the association, please reach out to one of the board members or our centre manager Rob Garnett.

Here’s hoping for an Indian summer, I could use a little more warm weather to complete some of my projects prior to snow sticking.

Talk with you next month.
