Well, times have certainly changed since my last letter. Our family runs a moving company in the Calgary area and although many in our industry may claim it to be essential, I disagree and feel moves should be limited during these times. I have honored booked jobs and helped a few long-term clients that needed emergency moves. Besides that, it is hard to be turning down jobs; 10 alone yesterday. I am unsure of where this will take us, how my overhead will be paid, and what can I do to help my staff survive. Like many of you I can feel the stress mounting, hoping that the measures governments are taking will help us weather this transition. My wife is one of the ‘At Risk’, so things have changed in our life to make things safer for her, but also everyone in our community. It is so important all of us follow directions limiting our exposure, social distancing, wearing masks, and of course washing our hands often.
With full respect and thanks to our doctors, hospital staff, nurses, first responders, pharmacy staff, police, fire fighters, EMTs, delivery drivers, janitorial staff, restaurant workers, truck drivers, grocery employees, teachers, farmers, gas station workers, distribution companies, and our elected officials. I know I missed some, but know you are appreciated.
To the many of you that have stayed at home, thank you! As we are the front line of defense (health care workers are our last line of defense), it is up to us.
To the many entrepreneurs, inventors, small businesses that have stepped up to aid our supply lines, thank you!
Community Business:
– Our roof repair is still moving forward. It will be in two stages to allow us to access grants to cover the full repair cost. Thank you to Rob Garnet and Jay Clements for helping upkeep the centre.
– Our Community Clean-Up in September has been cancelled.
I wish the very best to our community centre staff who have been laid off during these times. Stay safe and I hope to see all of you when we are allowed to reopen.
