Have you seen the new weight room? The new equipment is here and in use already, just in time for those January new year’s resolutions! We have three new units installed (HOIST Mi6 Functional Trainer, Versa Leg Press Calf Press, Versa MultiPress) and the fourth will come in January (Versa Leg Extension Leg Curl Combo). We partnered with Fitness Express to purchase and maintain these units. These are all separate units so if one goes down, we still have other separate units that will work. They were express chosen to back up against the wall to make better use of space in the small weight room we have. Volunteers worked together to move the equipment in and out while the flooring and new equipment placement were done professionally. This saved a lot of money and allowed us to stay within a budget for new equipment to serve our members and residents. Volunteers carried out the old flooring to the garage (we will likely use the old rubber flooring for the skate party).
Your community centre paid for all the new equipment using proceeds from the gym memberships, another source of revenue for the centre. The board vote was close, but the majority of the votes went to ensuring we had the best equipment vs. the best-plus equipment (like voting between Toyota and Lexus – the best vs. the best-plus). Many thanks to Rob and Ken for putting up with the board as they asked a million and one questions – which were all answered before the final decision was made. Thanks to the other volunteers for the emergency labour to ensure the amount spent was within the threshold agreed upon by the board. The main factor driving the decision was to buy the best and stave off future repair costs as the equipment is used over the coming years.
