Thanks to all the Fairviewers who came out to our AGM on June 6 for their great support, both in person and online! We heard reports on current board activities, passed our financials, heard from our (departing) acting president, and got a lot of information from Arcadis IBI, the developer behind the proposed Midtown project at Glenmore and Macleod. You can find out more about their project here: http://www.ibipublicengagement.com/midtown/index.php.
We also saw four active members of our current board depart – Chad Chapman (a Movie in the Park organizer), Andrew Gidden (a Wine and Cheese/wine survivor organizer and former VP), Elizabeth Duerkop (Little Free Libraries, former Secretary and VP, social media person, newsletter editing, and planning representative for the Heritage LAP), and Regan Klyn (President or Acting President for the past five years). All our board members also volunteer their time when they can to assist with various association projects and events as needed.
Re-elected to the board were Megan Federow (elected President at the subsequent board meeting), Wayne McNeely (VP), Michelle Stensrud (Secretary), Sam Koots (Treasurer), Alicia Davis, and Dave Eisenbart. New to the board is Les Sorenson. Thanks Les!
As you may have noticed, we have a working board in which a few people make everything happen. We’re a small community, and although we have a smaller pool of residents, our board members are committed to Fairview awesomeness, with close ties to our neighbourhood and their fellow Fairviewers. We’re people who want to ensure Fairview remains a friendly, fun, safe community with strong social ties – the best neighbourhood in Calgary!
But we need your help to keep it up. We need more board members. Without more people and fresh ideas, like all community associations, we risk losing events or even our very existence. We’re all busy, and it’s hard to make time to volunteer, even if you want to support the community you live in and love. We get that. But as the saying goes – many hands make light work!
Fairviewers are welcome to join the board at any time, not just at the AGM. If it feels daunting to reach out to a board member, know that we’ll happily answer any questions you have and will make you feel right at home. If you aren’t sure because you don’t know what being on the board is like, you can join a couple of meetings to observe and ask questions. If you’re willing to give us a small amount of your time at least once a month for meetings, please know that your help would be deeply appreciated. You can contact Megan at [email protected], or message us on Facebook or Instagram with your contact info, and we’ll reach out!
Thanks again Fairviewers. With your support, we can keep making our neighbourhood better and better, well into the future.
