Happy September, Everyone!

We are delighted to report that our 2023 Day Camps were incredibly successful, with pretty much every week sold out and all kinds of positive feedback. Many thanks to our great staff, wonderful volunteers and of course, all our campers and their families!

Way back in June, we held a Welcome to Summer event, complete with food trucks, a petting zoo, and a magic show, along with garden tours, games, goodie bags and activities. This was another successful event, and we are so grateful to all the volunteers and attendees.

Our Senior’s Social Group has continued to be active over the summer and will be hosting a trip to Waterton National Park on September 6. Email [email protected] for more information.

Our next event is the Beer Tasting scheduled for Friday, September 22. Go to www.midsun.org to get tickets. We are planning a couple of other events: a Christmas Market in November and a Wine Tasting in the spring, so keep checking our website or our Facebook page for information on those.

Another event that I want to draw your attention to is our Mid-Sun Community Association Annual General Meeting, which will be held at the community centre on Wednesday, November 8 at 7:00 pm. Please plan on attending and please consider volunteering to be on our community centre board.

As you know, I have been president of the association for four years. I’m willing to serve for one more year. After that, I’m done. It will be time for someone else to take over, to bring new enthusiasm and fresh ideas. To take on this position, we need someone who has been on the board for a least a year, so now is a good time to step up and sit on the board as a member-at-large or vice-president. The time commitment isn’t as much as you might think. We have eight or nine meetings a year. We don’t meet in the summer and this year, we aren’t meeting in September either. We are making every effort to limit the meetings to two hours.

There are advantages to being the president. Apart from getting to know people in the community, you:

• Learn about governance and leadership

• Expand your network

• Meet people in the city and the provincial government

• Have the opportunity to contribute to your community

• Have a positive impact on the lives of others

These look pretty darn good on a resume and can help you move your own career forward. If you have any questions, please email me at [email protected].

Have a terrific fall! I hope to see you at our Beer Tasting and AGM!

Patsy
