We are in this together – stay connected Riverbend!

As our community aims to prevent the spread of COVID-19, it is important to our mental and physical health to maintain social connection and relationships. There have been several grass roots initiatives in neighbourhoods around Calgary that promote connectedness while maintaining physical distancing regulations. We have been enjoying many of them in Riverbend:

Neighbourhood Window Walk – Families post artwork on different topics on certain days and during the walk around the neighbourhood can treasure hunt to find as many as possible. Watch our social media for May ideas, as well as post the creations that you find around our community.

Chalk your Walk – write positive messages on your driveway or sidewalk.

Porchraits –Thank you, Kelly Szott, for facilitating family porch portraits for over 30 families in our neighbourhood.

You can send photos of your window art, chalk creations or anything else that sends a message of hope to [email protected] and we will share on our social media platforms.

Support available for those in need

Our community Mission Hill Church offers support with meals and deliveries. They have volunteers available for doorstep delivery assistance for at-risk or isolating families, as well as prepared meals for families requiring support at this time. Please contact [email protected] to request or nominate a family for support.

Programs and events

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak, all indoor and outdoor programs are cancelled and the community centre will remain closed until further notice. The City of Calgary has also cancelled all events until June 30. Unfortunately, this means that our Spring Parade of Garage Sales, planned for June 13, is cancelled.

Support our local businesses

Supporting our local businesses supports our community. It’s been encouraging to see businesses innovating their services to pull through this tough time. Several local businesses have started offering online ordering and online purchasing options, as well as curbside or secure pick-up and delivery. Check out websites for details. Purchase some gift cards for others to use later. Order delivery or takeout from our local restaurants. Post positive reviews online. Spread the word about your positive experience. If you are a local business, email us [email protected] and we will share your offers on our social media platforms.

Thank you!

We encourage everyone in Riverbend to join a city-wide initiative of thanking health care workers, front line workers and first responders. At 7:00 pm every night, let’s go out onto our porches, patios or balconies and give a cheer.
