Willow Ridge’s GM Message for June

Well Willow Ridge, this has been a long, difficult spring, at the end of a long, difficult year. It’s been challenging to stay positive… and I’m frustratingly optimistic! But summer is around the corner and the board, volunteers, and staff are working away on some exciting WRCA projects!

Here are a few of the highlights:

  • Community Clean Up – Saturday, June 13 from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. WRCA was lucky to get a spring date for this year’s clean up! Check out our social media pages for a list of all that can be dropped off at the Community Centre to trash, compost, or upcycle. Free for members! A fee of $15 for WRCA non-members applies, or you can purchase a membership online or at the Clean-Up.
  • Disc Golf – Looking for something fun and free to do this summer?! Check out our new disc golf course! Cleaned and sanitized discs will be available to borrow when the Community Centre is open. Thanks to the Calgary Parks Foundation and the Embrace the Outdoors Grant for the fun new addition to Willow Ridge!
  • Tennis Courts – Our court renovations are looking great and should be complete in time for summer! For details on court memberships, court bookings, and future lessons check out our website.
  • Hiring Seasonal Staff – Kids home for the summer? WRCA has received a Canada Summer Jobs Grant and will be hiring seven, temporary, part-time students over the next few months. Check out our website for current openings.

I would like to take a moment to thank everyone who attended our AGM. Thank you also to our new and returning board members for your contribution to our community! And to those directors stepping down, thanks for the time and commitment you have shown the WRCA over the years. The amount of work done by so few is truly inspiring.

If you would like to be a part of an amazing team of volunteers, there are still some board vacancies – social, membership, and volunteer director positions are available. Committee positions are also available if you would prefer not to be a director. Volunteering is a great way to meet your neighbours, make an impact in your community, and improve your mental health – something we could all use right now!

While we don’t know what the COVID situation will be at time of publishing, our team will continue to work through the shutdowns. Though the Community Centre may be temporarily closed, our staff are available by phone, email, or direct message on our social channels.
