Hello Glenbrook,
It’s May, a time when we find the garden centers in our community opening up and getting busy as our residents spend more time outdoors in their yards and gardens. It is always exciting when our trees wake up for the season and everything becomes greener for the summer months ahead.
We are continuing to accept nominations for our two 2021 community awards until May 25. The first is the Glenbrook Lifetime Member Award, given to a deserving Glenbrook resident with 15 years or more of dedicated volunteer service to our community. The second is the Glenbrook Community Partnership Award, given to a business or group with 10 years or more of work contributing to life in Glenbrook. Nomination forms are available at the Glenbrook Hall or by request to [email protected]. This year, our board of directors has volunteered to assist anyone who wants to forward a nomination. If you know a deserving person or group, but would like some assistance with the nomination forms, please reach out to one of our executives and they will help you through the process.
Our Community Clean-up is on Saturday, June 5 this year, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Please remember to stick to these hours, and refrain from dropping off items early or late, by-law officers will be stationed during the event, and can charge you with illegal dumping if this is the case. While we are glad to be able to hold the event this year, it will be different from past years due to COVID-19 health guidelines. It will, as usual, include City of Calgary waste trucks, a metal recycling bin, and a place to drop off donations of small household items, and there will also be an organics recycling truck this year. However, there will be no volunteers to help unload your vehicles, this will need to be done on your own. There will be no socializing at the site, you will be required to empty your vehicle and leave straight after. Please expect delays, as the number of people we can allow at one time will be reduced. We also ask all residents to limit their trips to one per household, to allow as many families to access this service as possible.
Please remember that our playground and school speed zones are in effect until 9:30 pm each evening, and with the recent switch to daylight savings time, our residents will be out much later into the evenings. Speed limits are changing for all residential streets in Calgary this spring, reduced to 40 km/hr from the existing 50 km/hr. Drive safe and take care on our streets.
