- The push for new development continues in Glendale with a proposal received at our January meeting to rezone single-familylots on 17th Avenue SW to allow for a three-storey condominium complex. The site is five single-family lots on 17th Avenue SW, mid-block between Gateway Drive SW and Glenside Drive SW. The developers have shared their proposal for a 46-unit apartment block with neighbours directly affected and have plans for an Open House this winter seeking feedback from the community at large. Rick Balbi Architect Ltd. shared the preliminary concept drawing above with the Thumper. Look for news of a date, time and place in the Thumper, or on our Glendale community social media feeds. Those with paid community memberships also receive our e-newsletter to keep current on events in Glendale. If you have questions for the developer, contact April Kojima at [email protected]. Comments may also be sent to the City of Calgary at [email protected]. Use Application Notice LOC-2019-0195 in your subject line.
- We hope you survived January’s deep freeze and stayed warm enough to take part in some of our great community events this past month. The Winter Classic hockey game was back on the ice with new games for the kids this year. We had a Super Bowl party at the hall and the ever-popular ladies night ventured off to Richmond Pub for a nice social evening. Keep tuned to our Facebook page and website my glendale.ca for news of more social events.
- We had a surprise guest at last month’s community board meeting; Calgary Currie MLA Nicholas Milliken and his constituency assistant Julie Ann Matheson came to listen and let us know that his office is open to address any concerns that our residents may have under the umbrella of the provincial government. It is very much appreciated when elected representatives take time to listen and learn about the issues facing our community. You can connect with Mr. Milliken’s office at [email protected] or 403-246-4794.
- We have had concerns expressed about unsafe driving practices on Glenmount Dr. We are sure there are similar concerns on many streets in Glendale, so we remind all drivers to be courteous on our roads and mind the speed limits to ensure the safety of our residents.
- Glendale’s tennis members are invited to attend the next Glendale Board meeting to discuss new approaches to upgrade our community tennis courts. The meeting is March 11 at 7:00 pm.
