Although Angela Shea now lives in eastern Canada, she grew up in Glendale in the 1960s and has fond memories of the neighbourhood. Her grandfather bought a house on Glenwood Crescent in 1956 and then her father bought it from him in 1967. You may remember reading about Angela’s daughter Victoria and her partner Michael in the December 2022 Thumper. They live in that same house on Glenwood Crescent today, which they bought in 2021.
One of Angela’s fondest memories of life in Glendale in the 1960s and 1970s was the annual May Day parade that ran down 38 Street, just in front of their house. Kids would get so excited, decorating their bicycles to take part, and meeting at “the gully” as they called it—where our community centre is currently located—to enjoy games and a cake walk after the parade.
As Angela says, “When people move into Glendale, they don’t move out.” Which is probably why her own daughter has decided to put down roots in our community as well.
