Welcome to the September edition of the Killarney-Glengarry newsletter. Once again, I hope it finds you well. As the Province and the City have gradually reopened, I have also resumed work and activities that had been on hold or changed since March.
One of these activities is volunteering for the Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society as a Cat Caregiver at the Safe Haven shelter. I have volunteered for AARCS since February 2019.
The Safe Haven shelter is where homeless companion animals (mostly dogs and cats) first begin their journey to their fur-ever home. The animals reside in the shelter until they are placed in a foster home and/or adopted. There is also an onsite veterinary clinic. For the cats, Safe Haven also is an intake for cats in the TNR (Trap-Neuter-Release) program that the organization operates.
There are two shifts for cat caregivers: one in the morning and one in the evening. Cat caregivers feed the cats, clean the litter trays and the cages, and ensure that each cat has water, soft bedding, and toys! We also give each cat who wants it attention and pets!
I have always been an advocate for animal welfare and volunteering for AARCS allows me to participate in a positive way. It is one of the most rewarding things that I do.
