Hello Neighbours,

I hope you are all having an excellent summer. Thank you all for participating in our July events! We had an excellent turnout for GlobalFest Groves that was held in Kingsland. There were many great booths to visit, the food was delicious, and the performers were excellent. Thanks to all residents that swung by our booth and purchased memberships the day of (or showed that they already had memberships) to be entered into the draw for a local business giveaway – three lucky winners went home with awesome bags of prizes! I also wanted to give a big thank you to all the local businesses that donated to our giveaway bags – Leopold’s Tavern, Shoppers Drug Mart Kingsland, Junction Barbershop & Hair Spa, Revive Performance & Health, Starbucks, Britania Kingsland Veterinary, and Kingsland Family Dental Care.

We are still working on recruiting new members to be welcomed at our October AGM. As it stands, we are in the market for a Casino Coordinator and an Open Director. The Casino Coordinator is responsible for the planning and organization of our biggest fundraiser. Our next casino is booked for Q2 of 2024, so we are hopeful to get someone into this position as quickly as we can to make sure we have time to show them the ropes. Much of this role involves volunteer recruitment, so if you are someone who enjoys reaching out and making connections, this is the role for you! The Casino Coordinator is not required to attend all our monthly board meetings, so this could be a great role for someone looking to get their feet wet! The Open Director role is one without a specific portfolio and is a great opportunity for someone to get some experience as a volunteer board member. This position has the flexibility to help out across the board – just let us know what you’re passionate about and we will help find a spot for you! For more information on either of these roles, shoot us an email at [email protected].

Don’t forget that the Broxburn Veggie Truck is back at the Kingsland Community Hall every Tuesday for the summer. A great opportunity to grab some locally grown produce, cheese, pies, and more.

The board is on a break for summer holidays, so we will not be meeting again until September. But, to stay up to date on all things Kingsland Community, make sure to check out our website’s homepage to see what’s new in our neighbourhood and follow us on social media @kingslandcommunityyyc!

All the best,

Charlotte Quickel
