Winter is fast approaching and that means many community residents are looking forward to skating on the outdoor rinks! The community association is pleased to build and maintain the outdoor rink just north of the community centre on Longridge Drive and to support the Buffalo Park outdoor rink in Garrison Green.
We are very fortunate that we have been able to expand the rink located at the community centre through a generous sponsorship from Earl Grey Golf Club. The club donated its time and expertise to adjust the field so the rink can be made larger. The Association purchased a power sweeper, made possible through a Calgary Parks Foundation ‘Embrace the Outdoors’ grant.
So, we have the ice (or will soon, depending on the weather) and a power sweeper to keep the rink in good condition. Now we need some more rink volunteers! Training is provided. If you are willing to help maintain the ice, we would love to hear from you! This is a fun way to get some fresh air, meet your neighbours, and contribute to the community.
I hope you’ll get a chance to enjoy the outdoors this month, and maybe even check out the community outdoor rinks. Here’s wishing you a happy holiday season!
