Rutland Park’s August Traffic and Development Update

I would just like to highlight what has been happening behind the scenes this past month, in no particular order:

I attended a workshop on Community Outreach for Planning and Development.  The City is developing a toolkit for both applicants (landowners), and community associations. The intent is to streamline the expectation around engagement when it comes to development permit applications and land use amendment applications. Consistency in the process will help build transparency and encourage dialogue before applications are submitted to the City. The City, in turn, is looking to provide case study examples of what good engagement looks like. This will benefit all communities in the developed areas as they look to maintain their character while undergoing regenerative redevelopment.

I wrote a letter to City Council addressing the potential closure of Richmond Green Golf Course. While it does not have to be maintained as a golf course, it must be maintained as green space because of its special status in the CFB West Master Plan. It has limited development potential because of underground reservoirs beneath it, and Canada Lands is obligated to build another entrance into Currie at the entrance to the golf course. It is in the City’s best interest to hold off on any major changes until this intersection is built.

If you have not already signed up for our email updates, please do so on our website: rutlandparkcommunity.com. The City often gives us very short notice for upcoming events, and this is the quickest way for us to reach you. Please also join us on Facebook—Rutland Park Community Association, and Currie Community. Thank you for your ongoing support.
