I would just like to highlight what has been happening/going on behind the scenes this past month, in no particular order:
- One of our residents has noticed that there is a lot of speeding in the 31 Street playground zone. We are very happy to see that she contacted the Police and 311 to help keep our children safe. The Police noted that there was no “End of Playground Zone” sign and have addressed that issue. The City should have conducted “speed education” in that zone in the middle of October. This is often not enough to slow traffic down, so the CPS will be asked to come and do some ticketing in that area. It appears that the issue is both residents and non-residents. Bottom line-if you live here, you should know better! Slow down in our playground zones! With your help, we will continue to have wonderful, walkable communities
- We are happy to see that the City has followed up with traffic calming curb extensions at Richmond Road and Kerrydale. We have asked that they consider doing the same on the Killarney side of Richmond Road. Killarney was very supportive of this suggestion when we first started pushing for it, and, with any luck, we will soon see curb extensions on the north side of Richmond Road at Kerrydale.
- Someone (an MRU student maybe?) has spray painted over the 2-hour parking signs along the east side of Sarcee Road near Royal Park. I have contacted the City to ask them to address this.
- We have had a resident request for bus shelters on both sides of Sarcee Road at 40 Ave SW. I have put in a request with Calgary Transit-it would benefit not only our seniors, but our Currie ridership on the current 112 route as well.
If you have not already signed up for our email updates, please do so at our website- rutlandparkcommunity.com. The City often gives us very short notice for upcoming events, and this is the quickest way for us to reach you. Please also join us on Facebook-Rutland Park Community Association, and Currie Community. Thank you for your ongoing support.
