I would just like to highlight what has been happening/going on behind the scenes this past month, in no particular order:
1. For any who are interested, we have added a ‘donate’ page to our website. The intent is that these funds will go into community events and rink/Skate Shack upkeep. Thank you in advance for your consideration: https://www.rutlandparkcommunity.com/donate.
2. There is a reprieve on the sale of the Richmond Green Regional Park baseball diamonds. We have reached out to Councillor Walcott with two concerns. The first is that there be no reduction to the sale price of the land because park upgrades would be at risk. The second is that there be no changes to the developer requirements for the site. We had previously asked for an administrative inquiry into the hidden costs of developing the site so that Council was aware of how much taxpayer money would be needed. This was not done. Changing the developer requirements would mean additional taxpayer costs that the previous Council had not agreed to, thus negating potential remuneration benefits to the sale of the ball diamonds. We will also reach out to real estate and development services to see if they have any additional information to provide. We have been told that the redesign process for the remaining park space will continue, with public input on the final design being sought in April.
3. There have been recent installations of pinwheel-type cell apparatuses on the Richmond Green cell tower. The community vehemently opposed the colour of the tower when it was proposed as well as anything other than flush mount apparatus (to minimize the visual impact). We were told that anything other than flush mounted pieces would be discouraged. We will reach out to see if Rogers has indeed been given permission to install this style of technology.
4. The Community Cleanup will be on June 24 this year. Please save the date as we will be looking for volunteers.
5. Neighbour Day will be June 17 this year, in conjunction with our 50th Anniversary celebration as a community association. Some volunteers will be needed, and we are hoping that a lot of you can join us to celebrate.
6. We have reached out to Councillor Walcott’s office to inquire about the possibility of waiving the new residential parking fees for restricted parking since this restricted parking is in response to institutions in our communities (Mount Royal University and Sarcee Care West). He has indicated that residents with concerns should reach out to his office or use the 311 app for more information.
7. As you may already be aware, we have had a structural failure in the main hall floor. The hall will be completely closed until the floor system has been redone. We have had to move our lower tenant, Arashido Martial Arts, to the Skate Shack, so space is unavailable for bookings as well. Hopefully by the time you are reading this, we are close to reopening the hall. Thank you for your patience.
