Southwood’s President’s Message for November

Hello Southwood!

I hope your fall is going well so far.

I wanted to update the community on a few things. First off, as the community hall is recognized as a public building, we must follow the City of Calgary Vaccine Bylaw. Anyone looking to attend an event indoors that is over the age of 12, must either show proof of vaccination, a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours, or any medical exemptions. The CA is not here to debate this matter and we ask that we all respect one another during this time.

Second, with numbers skyrocketing, we have made the tough decision to cancel our larger events in the upcoming months (Halloween Howler and Winterfest). We thoroughly enjoy hosting these events, but with so many unknowns, we have decided to scale back and focus on introducing more, smaller gatherings. If you are interested in joining a planning committee for our events, please reach out to Christine at [email protected].

And finally, it looks like our casino will be scheduled in Q2 of 2022. We will be needing several volunteers to fill the spaces. Please consider volunteering your time with us. The funding we receive from the Casino helps us to maintain the community hall and offer more programming to our community members. We will be looking to fill two days when the dates are released, and the shifts will be approximately 8 hours. There are several roles that need to be filled and I promise it will be a fun time; I know I have enjoyed my times volunteering to date. If you are interested in volunteering, please email me at [email protected].

I hope you all have a great November!

All the best,

Becky
