Hawkwood’s Acting President’s Message for August

Hello Hawkwood!

Being in the Acting President role for the past few months, I have had the opportunity to connect with community members in person and through email, and I appreciate the feedback and suggestions I receive. Based on some of this feedback, I thought it would be helpful to provide some clarification on the Hawkwood Community Association (HCA).

First and foremost, the HCA is governed by a volunteer-led Board of Directors who live in the Hawkwood community. The HCA’s primary purpose is to create connections through recreational, educational, social, and cultural opportunities, as well as provide gathering places for the community while fostering an environment of collaboration and respect for all. In addition to sitting on the Board, many of our Directors also lead programs and events offered by the HCA, which means they volunteer more hours outside their Board-related positions. In addition, we have an Events Committee, a Rink Maintenance Group (affectionately named “the Rink Rats”), and a Hawkwood Community Park Committee, all comprised of volunteers who organize, coordinate, and support our programs, events, and facilities for the enjoyment of all Hawkwood residents. I also want to acknowledge our Soccer program, Community Garden, Pickleball Group, and other activity-related groups who have volunteer sign-up requirements to share the workload.

Because we are volunteer led, there are a few things we greatly appreciate from Hawkwood residents:

Patience and Kindness – it may take us a bit of time to reply to your feedback or requests. Like you, we are busy with work, friends, and/or family responsibilities. We do our best, but if it’s been some time since you’ve heard from us, give us a kind, gentle reminder and we’ll respond to you as soon as practical.

Buying Memberships – purchasing an annual HCA membership provides funds to help purchase equipment and supplies that support programs and events. At $30 per year for a household, it’s a small financial investment that helps your community.

Your Time – our programs and events rely on the support of our broader Hawkwood community. We encourage you to sign-up when we issue a call out for volunteers for our casinos, programs, and events. These requests are typically posted on our website and social media channels, and it is easy to sign up online. If we cannot fill the volunteer positions in advance, we will be faced with making difficult decisions to cancel programs or events.

Your thanks – if you happen to participate in or attend any HCA-sponsored events, take a moment to thank the volunteers. I guarantee that your kind words will absolutely make their day.

Please send me an email at [email protected] if you have any questions, comments, or want to learn more about volunteering for the HCA.

In gratitude and kindness,

Michele del Valle
